The Retreat above Milapidea
The initial concept idea for the building’s design is based in reference with the Katouni Bridge, a principal element of Topos that dominates- along with Milapidea School- the viewing horizon of the site. The consecutive arches of the bridge that are not dimensionally equal, making a bigger passage for the stream flow, inspired us to design a solid stone wall that “embraces” the white volumes of the two houses, protecting them from harsh weather conditions while simultaneously unifying them by serving- through its openings- as a mediating layer between closed- private spaces and open mutual areas.
